What a big flirt
Tesshin has got one of the cutest smiles. He's always been a very serious baby and it usually takes him 10 minutes to warm up to someone, but lately he's turned into a flirt. We went to Olive Garden and while we were waiting to be seated, two young girls sat next to us and he turned toward them, smiled and blinked his eyes at them (I guess that's his own version of winking). They thought it was so cute they waved back and he got excited. The other day, we were at the grocery store and he did the same thing to a lady in the produce section. We were at Dim Sum with the basketball crew and little Akemi was there too. Tesshin sat in his booster seat and Akemi was sitting in her dad's lap. Tesshin reached over and was holding her hand. It was so sweet. He pulled away once we realized they were holding hands. What a typical guy thing to do :o). At this point, it's really fun to watch him flirt with the girls. It may not be so fun when he's 15.

Summer fun

Did I mention that Tesshin hates
grass? If we put him on a blanket/towel, it acts like a protective boundary for him. He won't crawl one inch off of it. He'll touch the grass, make a funny face and then back up to the middle of the blanket. It's so funny to watch him crawl around the small area of the blanket and never leave. Actually it helps us a lot since we know he won't move from that spot. We messed around with him yesterday and put him in this floatie. He tried so hard to get out of it. He would put all of his weight on his butt and lift his legs up so they wouldn't touch the grass. What's he gonna do when we put him in soccer?!

Tesshin, where's your teeth?
I carry Tesshin out of his crib every morning and ask him where his teeth are? He'll either yawn or give me a big gummy smile. I blogged three months ago that he's probably teething because he was so cranky and would wake up in the middle of the night. I guess it was just one of those phases. He's starting to get bored with his mushy baby food so I'm slowly feeding him regular food but it's hard because he can't break it down with his gums. I'll do some stage 3 foods but it seems like he's swallowing the small chunks whole. He loves fruit -strawberries, grapes, bananas, cantaloupe, watermelon. He eats fish and chicken. Doesn't do so well with rice and furikake, just yet. Absolutely loves Cheerios but won't do the teething biscuits. I can't think of anything else I can give him during this phase. We'll just have to wait patiently for those teeth.

What's up?!
I know...it's been almost a month since the last posting. We've been so busy lately that I haven't had any time to publish a post. So, in a nutshell, this is what's been up with us, and more importantly Tesshin. The week of June 2-6 our day care center was closed so Tessho's mom flew down from Sacramento to babysit Tesshin for us. It was so nice being able to leave the house in the morning and not have to drag him to daycare. He was able to sleep in that week and bum around with Ba-chan. Every chance he gets to spend with his grandparents is so great. I grew up with only one living grandparent and she was in Japan. I saw her only 4 times in my lifetime. If you add that up, it was probably 6 months out of my 32 years of life. So Tesshin is very lucky he has both sets of grandparents and a great grandmother.
June 14-15 - We spent Saturday with a group of friends to celebrate Debbies's 30th birthday. We ate at Langer's Deli. They're famous for their pastrami sandwiches. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Tesshin tried some of the pastrami, too (after I sucked all of the salt out of the meat)
Here's a picture of Tesshin and Austin, sitting so well in the restaurant baby chairs, reaching for some yummy Cheerios.
On Sunday, we took it easy. My mom made us breakfast and I spent the afternoon shopping with her. We left a little early so we could make it back for Tessho's basketball game. They won. I made Tessho's favorite dish, tonkatsu, for dinner.

June 21-22 - This was a hot, hot , HOT weekend. Did I mention it was hot? Tessho participated in the Nisei Week basketball tournament so we were really busy with that. His first game was Saturday morning at 9:00. It was great to see a lot of the old "Marauders" guys. This time last year I was still pregnant so a lot of the team members from up north got to meet Tesshin for the first time. It was especially nice to see Uncle D (Dave) and Uncle Gami (Mike). They lost their game that day but it didn't spoil our fun. We went and ate Dim Sum, hung out at Uncle Sky's house, then ate dinner at Roscoe's. Sunday's game was also at 9 in the morning. They lost that game too. It was super duper close but oh well. We'll get 'em next year. We ate at Shaka's for lunch and then went to Jonathan's parent's house for a dip in the pool. Tesshin got in with his Huggies on. It was so huge by the time he got out. Talk about super absorbent!
